Mexico City: A Mexican journalist died of his injuries on Sunday after being shot two days earlier, authorities said, the second reporter killed in less than a week in the country.

Local media reported that Alfredo Cardoso, a photojournalist from the violent southwestern state of Guerrero, was shot after being kidnapped from his home on Friday.

The Guerrero attorney general's office said in a statement that Cardoso had succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

On Thursday, Fredy López, a radio host in the southern state of Chiapas, was shot and killed. During the first three years of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador's administration, at least 23 journalists had been assassinated before Cardoso, according to a tally by the freedom of expression group Article 19.
