Actor Alec Baldwin kills a woman using prop gun

A woman was killed and a man was wounded after actor Alec Baldwin fired shots using a prop gun at a New Mexico movie in 19th-century western Rust.

Halyna Hutchins, 42, was shot while working as director of photography on the set. She was taken to hospital by helicopter but died before reaching.

Police said they are probing and that no complaint had been lodged.

A spokesman for Baldwin said the incident involved the shooting of a prop rifle with spaces.

Baldwin was popularly recognized for playing Jack Donaghy NBC sitcom 30 Rock 's and his portrayal of Donald Trump on Saturday Night Live.

In a statement to the AFP news agency, a spokesman for the Santa Fe sheriff said Mr. Baldwin spoke to detectives.

"He entered voluntarily and left the building after completing his interviews," the spokesman said.

Police are trying to determine what type of projectile left the prop rifle and how. Baldwin was seen in tears outside the sheriff's office, local media reported.

The deceased Hutchins posted a video on instagram, riding a horse on the set. She posted the video just few minutes before being short dead. She was originally from Ukraine and grew up on a Soviet Military base in Arctic Circle.

Her website read that she studied journalism in Kiev and then film stdies from Los Angeles. She was also named "rising star" by the American Cinematographer magazine in 2019.

She was the director of photography for the action film Archenemy in 2020, directed by Adam Egypt Mortimer.

"I'm so sad to lose Halyna. And so furious that it could happen on a set," Mortimer said in a tweet.

"The details are unclear at this time, but we are working to find out more, and we support a full investigation into this tragic event," stated John Lindley, president of the guild and Rebecca Rhine, executive director.

Police say sheriff's deputies were sent to Bonanza Creek Ranch, a popular pick-up location, at about 1:50 p.m. local time (19:50 GMT) after receiving an emergency call about a shooting on the Rust set.

Famous martial artist, Bruce Lee's son also died because of a fatal shooting invovling a prop gun.

Brandon Lee's sister, Shannon, responded to Thursday's news: "Our hearts go out to the family of Halyna Hutchins and to Joel Souza and everyone involved in the incident on 'Rust'. No one should ever go up by a gun a movie is not killed. set. Period. "
