Egypt population blast: 1 million increase in only 232 days

Cairo: The population of Egypt has now reached the margin of 103 million as of Tuesday, February 22, 2022. This number has been increased by 1 million in just a time frame of 232 days. The Central Agency for Public Mobilisation and Statistics (Capmas) of the Middle East country shared the statics.
Egyptian population reached the mark of 102 million from 101 million last year in the month of July. This margin soared in just 275 days.
The agency, in its statement on Tuesday, highlighted that the Arab Republic country of Egypt will surpass the population margin of 124 million by the year of 2032.
The total number of newborns was lower in 2021, as compared to that of the previous year, but still, the population margin is increasing at a speedy rate, the agency noted.
The highest birthrate number is in the provinces of Assiut, Minya, Qena, Sohag, and Beni Suef, as per the information shared by the Capmas.
The Egyptian government introduced policies to stem the elevating population in the country.
The statement released by the Capmas agency further cites that "more should be done to slow down the soaring rate at which the Egyptian population is growing".
The rising population is a threat to the economy as well as the environment of the country, the agency noted.
This issue is a matter of concern and comes into the national spotlight ahead of the 2022 United Nations Climate Change Conference (Cop 27), which is going to be hosted by the Middle East nation in the month of November.
Egypt ranks at 14 position worldwide in terms of the population and 3rd highest in the region of Africa.
President of Egypt - Abdel Fattah El Sisi, previous year speaking on the issue, said the rising population has hampered government efforts of overhauling the country's economy and creating jobs.
He then stated, "The Egyptian people started a revolution in 2011 to make their lives better. But we cannot make those lives better until our population growth rate is more congruent with our means as a nation."
