The government of St Kitts and Nevis stated that the diplomatic passports of six ministers who were dismissed were not deactivated. The Ministry of National Security Secretariat that oversights the passport office released a statement on Sunday evening.
The Ministry of National Security Secretariat, which oversees the Passport Office, is in charge of all passport-related operations in the Federation.
"The Ministry of National Security wishes to inform the general public that none of the six former Ministers of Government's diplomatic passports has been deactivated by the Ministry, and no former Minister's passport has been blocked from international travel by the Ministry," said the Ministry of National Security.
According to the Ministry of National Security, neither the six former Ministers of Government have surrendered their Diplomatic Passport to the Ministry's Secretariat or the Passport Office, nor they were deactivated.
Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis Dr Timothy Harris last week dismissed six government ministers and dissolved the parliament. The elections must be carried out before 7 August 2022. He also removed Deputy Prime Minister Shawn Richards and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mark Brantley from these positions.
The "team unity" alliance government faced political turmoil after its partners, Concerned Citizens Movement (CCM) and People's Action Movement (PAM), accused the Prime Minister Timothy Harris of lack of transparency within the government of St Kitts and Nevis. He was also accused of unfair distribution of citizenship revenues to sister island Nevis.
