Special flight brings back 53 students from Jamaica to their homes in St Kitts and Nevis

Government of St Kitts and Nevis has airlifted its 53 students from Jamaica amid COVID-19 crisis. A special chartered flight was arranged to bring back students to their homeland.

The announcement was made by Deputy Prime Minister Shawn K. Richards, where he stated that students were contacting the government to come back to their country in this critical situation.

A particular chartered flight was arranged on Friday. The government party's official Facebook account quoted, "53 students have now flown home from Jamaica. This is just one of the steps we have taken to ensure the welfare of all our citizens, whether they are at home or abroad during the COVID-19 pandemic. We are all in this together."

Since the borders are closed to stop the contamination of this viral disease; only exceptional flights are landing in St Kitts Robert L. Bradshaw airport. As per the government, all commercial flights are dismissed; however, courier and cargo shipments are still arriving at the airport.

Dr Timothy Harris, the Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, states that the government continues to make efforts to ensure the safeguarding of its citizens residing abroad, especially students.

Students are delighted to be back on their land; nevertheless, students from the Nevis island faced several complications to reach their island from St Kitts due to the ongoing curfews. As no bridges are connecting these two islands, boats are the only way to reach, but as a result of this 24-hour lockdown, no boats are running.

The situation of COVID-19 is getting far more satisfying on this twin-island nation, this Thursday, six out of total fifteen positive victims have recovered. The country has been advantageous enough to experience zero deaths.

To stop the spread of the virus, the government has also imposed a six-month state of emergency.
