The new hospital, which has been referred to as the diagnostic wing, is around 2.5 times the size of the existing hospital. Major construction has been completed with the roof already installed. Windows, the outside facade and the interior finishing work are now being undertaken.
"We are also constructing a brand new kitchen facility to serve the entire hospital and Flamboyant nursing home complex. When finished, this will be the largest health infrastructural undertaking ever done in Nevis' history and will take us to the next level in the provision of health care to our people," said Brantley.
He also congratulated Hazel Brandy-Williams, Junior Minister of Health in the Nevis Island Administration (NIA), her team, local contractors Evelyn Construction, Wedge Construction and Merchant's Construction and the supervisor of the works Billy Claxton for their hard work thus far. While this project suffered well over a year of delay due to Covid and some necessary reconfiguration of the internal flow of the new hospital, the Cabinet is well pleased with the progress thus far and looks forward to completion in 2022.
