PM Timothy Harris makes St Kitts and Nevis a safer place for tourism amid COVID-19

Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis Dr Timothy Harris is working towards reviving the economy impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Since the reopening of the tourism sector, hundreds have received employment, as this quarter, the industry performed exceptionally well in numbers. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Dr Harris, the country received a notable increase of airlines choosing St Kitts and Nevis as their location. All major international and regional airlines, including American Airlines, British Airways, Caribe Air Charters, LIAT, Sky High, are back. Around sixty percent of travellers to St Kitts and Nevis are arriving from the United States of America, while twenty percent are nationals returning to the country. All this have been possible as the government handled the COVID-19 crisis exceptionally well, with good vaccination status and other protocols. Just a few days ago, the first time after March 2020, three cruise ships docked at the Port Zante, bringing back hundreds of guests from across the world. The cruise ships are bringing back employment for taxi drivers, tour operations, local vendors, and other artists. COVID-19 in St Kitts and Nevis The daily data of COVID-19 shows that St Kitts and Nevis have collectively contained this third wave of the virus. With the guidelines and implementations, people are adhering to non-pharmaceutical methods such as wearing face masks, maintaining social distancing and hand hygiene. The vaccination drive in St Kitts and Nevis was started on 22 February 2021, and soon after, it became the first country in the sub-region to reach the World Health Organization (WHO) minimum goal of getting 40 percent of the population fully vaccinated. St Kitts and Nevis now have one of the largest vaccination rates in the region, with 73.2 percent fully vaccinated and at least 79.7 percent of the adult population taking their first shot. The government is also working towards making the vaccination campaign more interesting and attractive for people. Travel Protocols The government of St Kitts and Nevis has made Port Zante accessible to all with compliance to all non-pharmaceutical protocols. Port Zante's access for the general public will generate more business activity and wider access to all services and goods. All vaccinated tourists coming to St Kitts and Nevis by air or cruise are allowed to have access to all COVID-19 approved sites such as Black Rocks, Brimstone Hill, Caribelle Batik. The government is also considering removing quarantine and testing requirements for fully vaccinated passengers 12-years and above. The isolation period is expected to be reduced from 14 days to 9 days.
