Former Minister of Foreign Affairs Mark Brantley stated that during his seven years of tenure, he was given only one chance to address the United Nations, General Assembly. He stated that in 2017, he had a chance to deliver his address on one of the biggest stages in the world.
Brantley said that it was the proudest moment of his life because, as a boy born 2 room chattel house on four stones in Henley Part, he never imagined he could walk on to the world's biggest stage and deliver for the people of St Kitts and Nevis.
"In 7 years as Foreign Minister, I was given my one and only chance to address the United Nations General Assembly in 2017. It came by default as the PM did not travel, and I was told that the Ambassador should deliver the national statement. I refused since I was in New York as Foreign Minister, and that's how I came to deliver the statement that year," said Brantley.
"This is the biggest stage in the world, and I shall always cherish the fact that a boy born in a 2 room chattel house on four stones in Henley Part could walk on to the world's biggest stage and deliver for the people of St Kitts and Nevis," added Brantley.
Furthermore, he stated that the people elected of St Kitts and Nevis elected them for representation to the best of their ability, not for us to dim our light so that others' light could appear brighter.
"Nevisians, we are from a small island but never ever let anyone diminish us or our ability. This is what real representation looks like,", said Former Minister of Foreign Affairs Mark Brantley.
Mark Brantley, who is also the leader of the Concerned Citizens Movement (CCM), was recently removed as the Minister of Foreign Affairs by Prime Minister Timothy Harris. He, along with deputy prime minister Shawn Richards and four other government ministers, was dismissed.
