Mark Brantley- Minister of Foreign Affairs St Kitts and Nevis called on the country's young citizens to make full use of the international scholarships that the country's government secured using their diplomatic allies.
While speaking at the Tea Radio Programme, Mark Brantley stated that notices went out this month to encourage the youngsters to apply for scholarships available in Taiwan, Serbia, and Turkey. He indicated that the current flow of applications is very underwhelming, and more people should come forward to take benefits.
"So many of us go and borrow big sums of money and place our families in massive debt and expenditure to receive an education that if you looked carefully might well be accessible somewhere for free," added the Minister of Foreign Affairs St Kitts and Nevis.
Sharing his opinions on education, Brantley stated that it doesn't matter from where a person complete their degree because it is just a ticket to the park.
"What counts is what you do with it; thus, it doesn't matter if you earned your degree in Morocco, Taiwan, or New York at this point. What matters is what you do with it, what you do with the education you've received, and that, I believe, is an essential factor".
Minister Brantley went on to say that studying in nations such as Serbia, Taiwan, Morocco, and other foreign countries helps people get a deeper understanding and appreciation of the culture, language, and people.
"I can't stress enough how vital that is in today's world to make you more competitive, to make you more appealing to an employer," he added.
"For example, being able to say 'I speak fluent Mandarin' is a wonderful thing. It implies that if that businessman is doing business with China or Taiwan, you become a wonderful benefit to them," he continued.
