UN Secretary General Guterres: UN working to save Ukraine

He further stated that, in Ukraine, humanitarian needs have been rapidly increasing and civilians are dying. More than 100,000 Ukrainians have left their homes, many have crossed the neighbouring countries, underlining the regional nature of this growing crisis.
For strengthening the response towards the crisis, the United Nation has appointed an UN Crisis Coordinator for Ukraine – Amin Awad. “Amin has been working closely with me for over a decade in UNHCR,” stated the UN Secretary General Guterres.
The newly appointed Coordinator will lead UN’s efforts, including humanitarian response, on both sides of the contact line.
He further stated that all the concerned of this conflict must respect international humanitarian law and guarantee the safety and freedom of movement of UN staff and other humanitarians, highlighting the need during this moment of time. Guterres mentioned that it is important that everyone remember that the United Nations is not just a chamber during this crucial moment.
He further emphasized on the problems, being dealt by the world. He mentioned that “There are tens of thousands of women and men around the world, dealing with various problems like- Feeding the hungry, vaccinating children, promoting development, protecting civilians in peacekeeping operations, mediating conflicts, supporting refugees and migrants, advancing human rights, and Standing, delivering, extending a lifeline of hope.”
He further lauded the United Nations Charter for standing firm on the side of peace, security, development, justice, international law and human rights.
Guterres further said that the international powers and the UN must save Ukraine so that the humanity might prevail in the nation.Latest
