Read Here: Why people are using 'Z' alphabet to show support for Russia ?
Monday, 14th March 2022
We all must have seen a 'Z' alphabet put on by Russian politicians, the Russian population as well as other dignitaries to express their support with the Russian government amid the current scenario and crisis of the country with Ukraine.
You all be wondering what does using this 'Z' alphabet means. The alphabet appears to be written on the Russian military tanks and the other military vehicles, and since then, it has become a symbol for supporting the Russian side in its conflict with Ukraine.
It's been almost three weeks since the beginning of the Russian military invasion of Ukraine (from February 24, 2022). On one end, where a few states have shown their support in favour of Russia, several international organisations and countries imposed restrictions on the country in solidarity with the Ukrainian people and its government.
Updates on the ongoing Russia-Ukraine situation:
A United-states based New York Times journalist lost his life amid the Russia-Ukraine violent conflict. The deceased has been identified as Brent Renaud, a 50-year-old video documentary shooter who was shot down on his neck while he was working on his report. As per information, the American journalist died on the spot.
One other journalist has also been wounded in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war, who has been identified as US photographer Juan Arredondo.
Meanwhile, claims were made by the United States government authorities, citing that Russia called on the government of China, asking them for military equipment, as per the Chinese Foreign Ministry, which further rejected the claims of the US, calling it a "disinformation".
The reports further note that citizens of Russia are unable to access Instagram as of Monday. The social media platform is no longer available in Russia. This move comes by META company after Russia accused the firm "of permitting violent and hatred calls against Russians, including military personnel on its platforms".
The data shared by the United Nations refugee agency discloses that so far, over 2.3 million Ukrainian nationals have fleed the country amid the ongoing situation and have taken shelter in other neighbouring nations.
