Kabul, Afghanistan: Taliban has announced a state of emergency in Afghanistan amid the heavy snowfall and rainfall, which is flailing several regions of the Islamic country. The all-men led administration has also called on the authorities to prepare for the rough weather.
An official of the Ministry for Disaster Management, while addressing the general public via radio, informed the government had already dispatched relief material to the provinces, adding that the distribution is still on. The Ministry is continuously in contact with the Ministry of Public Works and private firms,
At least 11 people lost their lives, and around 26 individuals sustained severe injuries following the current situation of snow avalanches and flooding.
Around 90 percent of the country's provinces (that is, 32 out of 34) witnessed heavy snowfall and flood, leading to blockage of highways. At the same time, numerous flights to Afghanistan airport has been disrupted.
The Salang, which is the main highway that links Kabul, the capital city of Afghanistan, with other northern provinces, has also been thwarted amid the current situation.
Observing the situation finding difficulties to transport relief aid to the people, the United Nations Humanitarian aid tweeted, "Heavy snowfall and the rainfall affected many regions of Afghanistan in the past 24 hours".
"The harsh winter is compounding the severe conditions that numerous people are facing. We are dashing against time to deliver aid and supplies to the needy ones in these difficult times".
This situation fuelled the humanitarian crisis going on in the Islamic state.
In addition, earlier, this week the Taliban Cabinet issued an order to behead mannequins at the Afghan clothing shops, stating it violates the Islamic laws.
The country is already suffering from hunger and economic crisis, which has troubled the lives of people, especially Afghan women. Poverty has resulted in compelling students to withdraw their names from the schools or institutions, which puts their future at stake.
