Suicide is becoming more recognised as a worldwide concern. Despite this, little is known about the suicide rates among adolescents around the world. According to the World Health Organization, several societal elements that exist in Jamaica can operate as stresses and may predispose people to commit suicide. It is critical to understand the patterns that exist and the factors that influence them before developing treatments. The information taken from standardised police data collected over a period of time shows that there has been an increase in number of suicides among teenagers aged 9 to 19 years in the years 2007 to 2010.
