Kamina Johnson Smith lands in South African country of Lesotho to discuss bilateral ties

Jamaican Minister of Foreign Affairs & Foreign Trade Kamina Johnson Smith is currently on her tour to African countries as she promotes her candidature as the Secretary-General to the Commonwealth.

On Sunday, Smith landed in the South African country of Lesotho, where she met with her counterpart and discussed bilateral ties.

The meeting between Kamina Johnson Smith and Lesotho Foreign Affairs Minister and IR Matsépo-Molise Ramakoae was held in the capital city of Maseru on Monday morning.

"We had good discussions on strengthening bilateral engagements through cooperation in culture as well as education and youth in respect of which of our countries already have a framework agreement," said Johnson.

Smith stated that they discussed the very vibrant engagement that Lesotho has with the Commonwealth in areas of Parliamentary Reform, Electoral Reform and Anti Corruption Reforms.

"We discussed the areas in which we agreed the Commonwealth has strong expertise and comparative advantage, and should accordingly always retain as a focus for building democratic institutional strength across its member states,".

Smith also shared videos, showcasing the beautiful views of the capital city of Maseru, Lesotho.

Besides this, she also had a telephonic conversation with Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar as the Indian President Ramnath Kovind is all set to visit Jamaica for the first time. This is the very first time that an Indian President will visit Jamaica.

He will hold delegation talks with the Jamaican Governor-General Patrick Allen, Prime Minister Andrew Holness and several other dignitaries. Kovind will also be addressing a joint sitting of two houses of Jamaican parliament.

The Indian President Kovind will visit Jamaica and St Vincent and the Grenadines from May 15 to 21.

Jamaica and India are celebrating 60 years of establishment of bilateral ties; as per reports, over 70,000 Indian diaspora resides in Jamaica, fueling the relationship between the two countries.
