Kingston, Jamaica - As the world is resuming again, and with the time educational institutes are also reopening slowly and steadily. To reopen of schools in the jamaica, Ministry of Health and Wellness has inspected the one hundred and nine schools.
Officers who are in the inspection team stated that the schools have been inspected and rated satisfactory.
They also added that we might resume our school activities in the phased manner by 2021.
Addressing at a post-Cabinet press briefing at Jamaica House yesterday Minister of Education, Youth and Information, Fayval Williams, told the ministry has been looking at that list and is in discussions with the principals.
She also noted that they all know that it will take time schools to get back on track,
"You have to get the message out to parents, and parents themselves have to get combat-ready. Teachers who are at home and teaching from home with the online system, some have their children by them, and they would have to seek help and support for those children," Williams said.
She also added that It is a vital logistics job that needs some time, so it isn't as if we can get up and say to the 109 schools 'come back in'. So, we are in touch with the principals to work out how we continue to bring schools back face-to-face.
Williams pointed out that the phased reopening of schools will be led by a risk-based assessment that was used to inform the just-concluded pilot.
We will continue to look at all the variables we used in the initial pilot, which is community-based, [and] look at the distance the pupils travel. We look to assure there is adequate water and fair Internet," she said.
In the meantime, Williams said the ministry is in the process of looking at the information that would have been gathered by observers of the 17 schools that participated in the face-to-face classes.
