Adam Stern, a champion professional freediver from Australia, travelled to Dominica to make his most daring dive yet.

Heading down into an underwater volcano crater close to the shore, the extreme sportsman made it to 104 metres – his deepest dive to date.

Stern was taking part in the Blue Element freediving competition.

Writing on one of his official channels, the he said the dive “felt great and easy and we were diving in such stunning conditions.

In July, a new record was set by Sofía Gomez Uribe as part of  Dominica Dive Fest, the longest running scuba dive and water sports festival in the Caribbean.

November 2016 saw Dominica’s first ever free diving competition, which saw 17 competitors from 11 countries head to the Nature Island.

At the time Senator Robert Tonge, minister of tourism, said that the sport was going to “bring a lot of awareness to the country” and demonstrate “what Dominica has to offer.”
