The campaigning for Grand Bay re-elections has started. The wife of Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit and Parliamentarian from Roseau Central, Melissa Skerrit, has started campaigning for Vince Henderson.
Vince Henderson was nominated as the Dominica Labour Party candidate for Grand Bay re-elections on Tuesday evening during a constituency meeting.
Melissa Skerrit, while endorsing Henderson, asked her Roseau Central Constituents to lend support to him. She said she is "particularly impressed with Dr Vince Henderson's active engagement and stellar performance in community development and his key role in Dominica's advancement."
She stated Henderson brings excellent credentials to this position. Furthermore, she noted that his (Henderson's) track record is solid evidence of his ability to work for and with the people.
"With great enthusiasm, I endorse Dr Vince Henderson as the Dominica Labour Party's candidate for the Grand Bay Constituency. Let us rally together with this man of service and integrity who only wants the best for the Constituency of Grand Bay and Dominica by extension," said Melissa Skerrit on Facebook.
Henderson is the former parliamentarian for the St Joseph Constituency and served as the Minister of Foreign affairs between October 2008 and December 2009. He did not contest elections in 2009 and was later replaced by Kelver Darroux. He is Dominica's permanent representative to the Organization of America (OAS) and Ambassador to the United States of America.
The re-elections in Grand Bay are being conducted after parliamentary representative Edward Registe suddenly passed away on 1 September 2021. The Dominican constitution demands that elections must be held within 90-day of the passing of any democratically chosen candidate.
The first constituency meeting was held in the Grand Bay constituency on Tuesday evening after the passing of Edward Registe. Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit asked the constituents to "trust him" and said Henderson's name was proposed after thorough discussions.
