Roseau: Dominica welcomed the L'Express Des Iles back to the island on Sunday. The ferry docked at the Ferry Terminal, Bayfront Roseau, after an extended halt in operations since March 2020.
The government of Dominica declared to resume Ferry services between neighbouring French islands from 17 November, since then L'Express Des Iles arrived in the country for the first time.
The coronavirus pandemic forced the government of Dominica to close down the ferry operations. The resumption has been made under strict coronavirus related protocols, and all individuals are required to have a negative RT-PCR test taken 72-hours before arrival.
Besides this, all vaccinated travellers must undergo antigen tests. If negative, the persons are medically cleared without any quarantine requirements; however, all non-vaccinated persons must undergo a five to seven-day long isolation upon arrival.
As per the statistics by the Ministry of Tourism Dominica, Ferry passengers contribute highly to the stay-over travellers in the country and support the economic structure.
Dominica and its neighbouring French islands of Guadeloupe and Martinique have a long history of social and economic relations. The countries share strong ties, and ferries are the most convenient mode of transportation between these island countries.
The government of Dominica continue to ensure the well-being of all Dominicans along with stimulating economic activities.
