Govt to give $1M in salary allocation for teachers under new organisational structure: PM Skerrit

Roseau, Dominica: Prime Minister of Dominica Dr Roosevelt Skerrit shared the weekly accomplishments of his government in the Anou Palay on Sunday. He stated that the government recently approved the new organisational structure for teaching services, Minimum Wage Order, and the Hospital Authority Act. Senior Graduate Teachers

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit stated that the new organizational structure is expected to promote a higher level of professionalism among school staff. He said this would also provide the staff with new opportunities for career development and upward mobility. "Teachers will now be charged with more responsibility and receive a correspondent increase in compensation. The increase would amount to over $1 million in salary allocation for teachers on an annual basis," stated Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit on Sunday. PM said the decision reflects the commitment of the Dominica Labour Party-led government towards the professional development of teachers. He said the new changes would also benefit the students of the country. Furthermore, he noted that the new wage review would be implemented from September 1, 2021, where the daily minimum wage. The minimum wage in Dominica will be increased from September 1, 2021. The increase applies across all wage categories. He said the wage review was undertaken after extensive consultations with the relative stakeholders, including the international partners, such as the International Labour Organization (ILO). "The new Minimum Wage Order is another indication of this government's preoccupation with improving the livelihood for the most vulnerable among our citizens and creating the right environment for our people to progress," stated Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit. Discussing other accomplishments of the government throughout the week, Prime Minister said that the government also passed the Dominica Hospital Authority Act, which governs the administration and management of hospitals across the island.
