The Government of Commonwealth of Dominica has called the John Kerry's nomination as an envoy on the climate-crisis as United States' steps towards climate-change.

John Kerry-The, former US secretary of state, has been designated as an envoy on the climate crisis under President-elect Joe Biden's new administration.

Dominican Prime Minister stated on his social media handles that he sees this as a firm commitment of President-elect Joe Bide to make climate change a top priority for his presidency.

Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit tweeted that on Monday, "The Government of Commonwealth of Dominica views the nomination of @JohnKerry  as a firm commitment of President-elect  @JoeBiden to make climate change a top priority for his presidency. Mr Kerry has the experience and skills to work with the global community in such matters."

Recently Biden's transition team declared that John Kerry would "fight climate change absolute time" in the position, which for the first time will hold a place on the national security council.

John Kerry also put his views on this in a tweet he stated that America would soon have an administration that manages the climate change as the primary national security warning it is.

As secretary of state, Kerry played a notable role in the international effort to craft the Paris climate agreement, which obliges countries to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to avoid disastrous storms, heatwaves, flooding and other looming climate threats.

Since retiring government in 2017, Kerry has been sharply critical of Donald Trump's dismantling of environment policies and the decision to push the US from the Paris agreement. Biden has pledged to re-enter the Paris deal.

Over the season, Kerry was part of a climate taskforce the Biden campaign used to promote its carbon-cutting plans.

The approval of such a heavyweight political figure to an anew elevated climate position was warmly welcomed by not only the political leaders but by the environmentalists too.
