Water storage in Corporate Area almost at capacity
Higher levels at this time than over the last five years, says NWC president

Jamaica’s National Water Commission (NWC) has reported that its two major water storage facilities in the Corporate Area are 99% full.
This capacity is unusual for this time of year, according to NWC President Mark Barnett.
“Reasonable amount of rainfall, plus our level of management of the storage” is behind the increased levels, he said, with the company benefiting from strong flows into the system at the Hermitage Dam and Mona Reservoir in particular.
‘Conservation key’
Earlier this month Barnett announced a contract worth more than JM$1 billion had been signed at the prime minister’s office for the second phase of the Port Antonio Sewage and Drainage project.
But the NWC president stressed the importance of sensible water usage.
“I always want to encourage our customers to conserve. Don’t take it for granted that it [water] is always going to be there, we know what we have experienced in the last couple of years, and we really don’t want to go back there,” he said.
