US traveller tests positive after arriving in Grenada, contact tracing initiated

Grenada: The government issued immediate contact tracing measures following a female was tested positive for COVID-19 on August 3, 2021. According to Acting Chief Medical Officer, Dr Shawn Charles, the discovery of this latest case brings a total number of cases to 170 in Grenada. He added that this case is very unique as a female in her twenties was not tested positive during her travel into Grenada on Monday, July 26, 2021, from the US. But, she is tested positive following her testing before she could leave the country.

Following the negative test report on her arrival, she visited 10 places in Grenada between July 28 and August 3. So far, the Ministry of Health has traced 1 contact, which has been isolated and sent samples for the tests.

“People must continue to follow the recommended protocols, physical distancing, avoiding mass gatherings, wearing masks in public spaces, regular hand washing or sanitization. Further, the Ministry of Health advises that persons who may be experiencing flu-like symptoms should isolate themselves and contact their nearest health facility,” said Dr Shawn Charles.

He added that the Delta variant is considered as far more contagious and deadly, while this variant has not been identified in Grenada. People must observe caution in the matter of celebrations as athletes of Grenada have outperformed to make a change to win gold for the country.

Grenada currently has 4 active cases of COVID-19, and some test reports are yet to come. He also added that the government would not call a halt on celebrations, but also remind all the citizens and residents to abide by protocols outlined by the government.
