Exercise Tradewinds (TW21) is getting ground at military bases across Guyana. The US Southern Command-sponsored joint exercise aims to enhance the collective ability of Defence Forces and constabularies to counter transnational criminal organisations and conduct humanitarian assistance and disaster relief operations. The exercise that concludes later this month also fosters solid relationships and reinforces human rights awareness. TW21 is the 36th iteration of the exercise that supports the Caribbean Basin Security Initiative and US SOUTHCOM’s goal of building partner nations capacity at the tactical and operational levels. Thus far, ranks from all participating nations have engaged in a wide array of training activities. At the Special Forces Squadron, the ranks are enthusiastic about the training they are receiving. They are engaged in a packed programme that includes Tactical Shooting, Para trooping, Ropelling and House Clearing Drills. The training is administered by members of the 2-54 Security Forces Assistance Brigade (SFAB) of the US military. Corporal Rolex Glasgow, who described himself as a versatile soldier, is elated about the training and eagerly awaits his opportunity to share with his colleagues.  “ So far, I am enjoying the activities, and I have learned many new tactics and new and exciting ways to shoot. Unfortunately, all of us could not be here, so I am anxious to share all that I have learnt with the other members of my unit. For me, this is the ultimate goal: to take back and share what I have learnt." stated Corporal Rolex Glasgow. Lance Corporal Joshua Scipio finds the training very educational. “I am enjoying the training and even though we are learning a lot, we are also able to share and combine our strategies, and this makes it more exciting. I am looking forward to the remaining of the training,” he said.
