U.S. Embassy partners with Barbados Youth Business Trust to launch AWE Program

Wednesday, 17th April 2019

The U.S. Embassy in Barbados will partner with the Barbados Youth Business Trust (BYBT) to implement the U.S. Department of State’s Academy for Women Entrepreneurs (AWE) Program. The partnership was officially launched on April 12, as Public Affairs Officer of the U.S. Embassy Barbados, James Rodriguez, and BYBT’s General Manager, Mrs. Cardell Fergusson signed an agreement for the program’s implementation. Barbados is among 26 pilot countries worldwide selected to participate in the AWE program, which aims to support women entrepreneurs. As the implementing partner, the BYBT will conduct business-training sessions for approximately 30 women entrepreneurs.

The U.S. Department of State launched the Academy for Women Entrepreneurs (AWE) program as part of the White House-led Women’s Global Development and Prosperity initiative, and aims to equip women with practical skills needed to create sustainable businesses and enterprises. At its core, AWE will expose potential women entrepreneurs to an educational opportunity that combines in-person training sessions and a facilitated massive open online course called “DreamBuilder.”

U.S. Embassy’s partnership with BYBT is part of the U.S. government’s commitment to promoting economic development and women’s empowerment to help Barbados enhance conditions for increased stability, security, and prosperity for all.
