Trinidad: Govt to assist over 340 families under Home Improvement Grants

Trinidad and Tobago: In a significant development, more than 340 families are set to benefit from Home Improvement Grants from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development in the coming weeks. Minister Adrian Leonce announced the development earlier this week during a brief meeting.

He outlined that in the past fiscal year,  the programme supported around 762 families with an expense of $11.43 million. For the present fiscal year, $12 million has been allocated, and the government expects to assist around 800 families.

He also noted that the overwhelming response with more than 1500 new applications showcases the programme’s urgent need and public appreciation.

During the meeting, the Minister also distributed cheques to 25 beneficiaries who form part of a larger group of 342 recipients from North West Trinidad. These beneficiaries are from various communities, including Santa Cruz, Champs Fleur, Laventille, Morvant, Diego Martin, Trincity, Belmont, Port of Spain, and Cascade.

The Housing Minister lauded their resilience and spirit and emphasised the transformative power of such grants of Trinidadian government. He said that other distribution ceremonies for more Home Improvement Grants for other parts of the nation will be announced soon.

According to the information, the programme provides non-refundable grants of $15000 to low-income households for necessary home repairs, functionality, improving safety as well as aesthetics.

Minister Adrian Leonce noted, “Home is where the heart is. Our homes are more than just physical structures, and they are the sanctuaries where we find solace, the spaces where dreams are nurtured, and the environments where our future generations are raised,” while highlighting the significance of a residence for everyone.

“As we move forward, let us be reminded that takes a united effort to build a nation. Every repaired roof, every new window, every upgraded facility for a person with disabilities – these are not just improvements to a structure, but investments in the future of our communities,” he further outlined and said that the government is more than assist to assist the needy citizens.
