Trinidad and Tobago has recorded its 13th double murder after two cousins were shot dead in Maloney on Thursday, May 23, 2024.
According to the reports by police authorities, the deceased were identified as 27-year-old Jahvill Joseph and 21-year-old Micah Shavel Alfred. Both the victims are residents of 235 Bitten Boulevard, Maloney Gardens.
It is said that around 12:55 pm, Alfred was getting a haircut at a barbershop alongside Kiskadee Lane, Maloney Gardens, when a silver-grey colored Kia registered PCP 1564 pulled up in front of the shop.
The police reported that a masked man who was armed with a gun came out from the vehicle, pointed a firearm toward Alfred, and started shooting, following which the victim got up and ran inside the house, where he collapsed after getting many gunshot wounds at his body.
It is said that the suspect then re-entered the said vehicle and drove off, but upon reaching a parlor along 235 King Bird Street, they saw Joseph standing outside a shop and pulled up against him. The armed man then came out of his vehicle and told the victim not to move before firing several shots and killing the victim on the scene.
The suspects then escaped from the scene, and residents of the area who heard the loud explosions of gunshots notified the police officials, following which the emergency health services arrived at the scene.
Reportedly, Alfred’s mother rushed him to the Arima District Health Facility, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Meanwhile, the first responders, including WPC Lynch, PC Mohammed, PC Placide, PC Haban, and PC Salina, upon arrival at Kingbird Drive, found Joseph’s lifeless body face up in a pool of blood, following which the body was taken to the hospital after being pronounced dead on the scene.
The police officials said that they have launched an investigation into the incident and believe that it is related to gang crimes.
The last double murder took place on Monday, May 20, 2024, when 31-year-old Kervaughn Vincent, aka Gaza, and 27-year-old Mickell Gittens, both of Bhagaloo Trace Extension, Enterprise, were shot dead during an exchange of gunfire at Gittens Trace, Enterprise.
