The Director of Agriculture, Melvin James, stated that all farming products necessarily be identified and declared to Customs by passengers during admission in St Kitts and Nevis.
Addressing at the Department of Agriculture’s Annual Review and Planning gathering on February 26, Director James described the causes why everyone must declare unprocessed agricultural goods when one travels.
“When you travel abroad, you must not cover farming goods in your baggage, that is not signifying intelligent. We require to understand what you are taking because to you it may be a gentle flower, but there may be anything held in it that can hurt us,” he said.
The Department of Agriculture suggests on their website that “any sowing material, plant cutting, seed, live plants, cut flowers, ornamental or additional unprocessed plant produce originating from of St Kitts and Nevis need an import permit prior to admission inside the Federation.”
The Department additional stated: “An import permit needs to be obtained from the Plant Quarantine Unit, Department of Agriculture St Kitts, before the deployment of an order. This paper is to be given to the exporter while buying your consignment.”
