Trinidad and Tobago: A young couple became the victim of a tragic vehicular accident after their vehicle lost control and drove into the sea in Chaguaramas on Sunday.
According to police officials, the deceased have been identified as 28-year-old Akil Mark Thomas, from Diego Martin and 25-year-old Jeraldin Matamoro from Maraval.
While stating the facts of the accident, the police said that around 8:20 pm, the couple were driving east in the vicinity of O2 Park when Thomas tried to overtake a line of traffic and lost control of his vehicle.
The car changed its direction onto the southern side of the roadway and then flipped into the waters off Welcome Bay.
In addition to this, it was reported that individuals who witnessed the accident tried to offer assistance but they were not able to reach the two victims and notified the police and fire services about the incident.
After getting the report, fire officers from the Wrightson Road headquarters responded and were able to remove the vehicle from the sea and retrieve the two victims, who were pronounced dead by a district medical officer at the scene.
The footage of the accident showed the car floating in the water while the witnesses waited at the shore of the Welcome Bay for help. After the retrieval, police laid the dead bodies on the road near the bay, following which an ambulance took them to the hospital.
