Sprint star Kim Anderson Collins – the fastest man older than 40 in history – has been elected to the IAAF Athletes’ Commission.
The St Kitts and Nevis Hero led the vote tally against 15 other candidates vying for six positions on the commission.
Collins garnered 798 votes, 107 more than Germany’s Thomas Rohler in second place.
All 1,931 athletes who were accredited for this year’s World Championships in London were eligible to vote.
Nearly 1,200 of those able to vote actually took part. Of that number 1192 actually voted.
The IAAF Athletes’ Commission represents the link between athletes and the governing body, ensuring the voice of the athletes is heard and fed into decision-making processes.
To be eligible for nomination, athletes must have participated in at least one of the past two editions of the World Championships or in the most recent Olympic Games, or be a competitor at this year’s IAAF World Championships.
The Athletes’ Commission is currently made up of 19 members, with 12 elected by their fellow athletes and seven appointed by IAAF Council.
The other athletes who made the top six were Ivana Spanovic (Serbia), Benita Willis (Germany), Adam Ksztco(Poland) and Canada’s Inaki Gomez.
Collins and the other five will begin their mandate on 1 January 2018.
