St Kitts and Nevis could be ‘embarrassed’ over bribery scandal
Former minister Dwyer Astaphan has addressed issue

Former Minister of National Security and Tourism Dwyer Astaphan says attention surrounding a bribery case in the UK could cause St Kitts and Nevis much embarrassment on an international scale.
British businessman Peter Virdee, also known as ‘Batman’, is facing £43 million fraud allegations.
He is accused of bribing high ranking Caribbean politicians including officials in St Kitts and Nevis, and Antigua and Barbuda.
He was asked by WINN FM about the implications for the government, both past and present.
“Well, it’s certainly going to get press coverage internationally. It could be used as fodder for cynical people in the commercial and social media,” he said.
“It could also be used as fodder for governments and other institutions out in the world which would like to see our citizenship programmes close down, and which would like to continue the narrative it is easy to distract leaders and politicians in countries like ours.”
