St. Kitts and Nevis: The 29th edition of the highly anticipated Agriculture Open Day in St. Kitts turned out to be a huge success. Hundreds of patrons took advantage of sale on wide range of agro products during the two day exhibition on April 25 and 26.
The patrons engaged in the watermelon eating competition, horse riding and other activities. Visitors also got their pet dogs trimmed at discounted prices during the 2nd day of the event.
The two-day event was held under the theme, “Securing Our Future Through Sustainable Agriculture by 2025 and Beyond.”
The Agriculture Open Day is a major event which strives to showcase the diverse facets of the agricultural sector. It brings together farmers, fishers, agribusiness and agro processors.
The two day event created a comprehensive platform for promoting sustainable agriculture by fostering awareness, education and collaborations across all key stakeholders.
The annual event showcased a wide range of agro products and services and presents the opportunity for persons to interact directly with farmers, fisherfolk and other food producers, and to purchase fresh locally grown produce.
During the event, the farmers got the chance to bring their products from farm to the table and offer it to a huge number of visitors.
The Agriculture Open Day began at the Royal Basseterre Valley National Park, following a brief ceremony that featured remarks from officials including Minister of Agriculture Samal Duggins and Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture, Miguel Flemming.
While giving remarks at the event, Minister Duggins said that the significance of such a huge event which highlights the achievements in the agricultural sector can’t be overstated because agriculture is the lifeblood of the nation.
He added that it holds within it the power to revolutionalise the economy, uplift communities and to protect the entire environment. The Minister also called upon the residents to fully embrace the potential of this major sector which the define the future of St. Kitts and Nevis.
