Saint Lucia: Work on East Coast Road Rehabilitation Project progresses swiftly

The three-phased East Coast Road Rehabilitation Project commenced in November 2023 and strives to address the many factors contributing to the deterioration of the roadway over the years.
While providing recent updates on the project, the Civil Engineer in the Ministry of Infrastructure, Haydon Henry stated that the phase on road work was started from the La Caye Junction to the Bosquet d’Or Bridge.He said that the work so far is 22 mm of asphalt being surfaced. The Civil Engineer added that the team has not yet put in the final 55 mm wearing course of asphalt.
While sharing a glimpse of the construction, he said, “As you can see, the present layer of asphalt is not the final layer and said that it was places like this so that the team could enable some trafficking of the surface and for consolidation to take place, so that we could see any failures in the pavement surface so as to make sure the integrity of the construction.” He also said that the second phase of the East Coast Road Rehabilitation Project will span from La Ressource to the Bosquet d’Or Bridge. The contractor started mobilization on the reduction of verges in those areas on February 27.According to Haydon Henry, the complete scope of the works will involve a third phase from the La Caye junction to the bottom of the Fond d’Or Hill. This section of the road will also be reconstructed during the duration of the project.
He also encouraged the general public to be vigilant while traversing and paying attention to road signs to assure safety during the construction and execution of works.
The scope of works at the East Coast Road Rehabilitation Project, apart from paving of the roadway also includes drainage works as well as clearing of the verges.
