Puerto Rico Health Workers gets first jab of COVID-19 vaccine

Puerto Rico health workers queued for the night as the US territory continues its COVID-19 vaccine schedule.

A large sports and concert venue in San Juan was the stage area for mass vaccinations on Wednesday.

The Pedrin Zorrilla Coliseum was set up as a treatment centre capable of servicing around 600 people a day.

During the previous week, shots were sent directly to clinics and health centres where staff were inoculated at their workplace.

The sports arena was used to reach health experts who are not working in hospitals.

The territory has received doses of both the Pfizer/BioNTech and Moderna vaccines, each in use across the world.

Currently, only healthcare personnel and first-responders are being inoculated, but authorities expect to begin vaccinating the general population in phases across the shelter in the coming months.

As of December 30, Puerto Rico has reported 126,000 epidemics and 1,228 deaths due to the new coronavirus.
