Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit appeals motorcycle riders to wear helmet

Prime Minister Dr. Roosevelt Skerrit stated that he is hugely concerned about Dominica's motorcycle accidents and appeals to all young people to be mindful of their safety.

Prime Minister of Dominica appealed to all two-wheeler drivers to drive safely. Dr. Roosevelt Skerrit showed his concerns about tragic motorcycle accidents happening in the country.

Prime Minister Dr. Roosevelt Skerrit stated that he is hugely concerned about motorcycle accidents happening in Dominica and appealed to all young people to be mindful of their safety.

He noted that the government and police are playing their parts; however, people need to respect and follow the traffic rules to ensure their own safety.

"You should not be on a motorcycle if you don't have the safety gear. The helmet is essential," added Dr. Roosevelt Skerrit.

To spread awareness, Prime Minister Dr. Roosevelt Skerrit shared the story of a person who had an accident, and a helmet saved his life. He stated the helmet of that individual crashed, and if the head wasn't covered, that person would have lost his life.

"Wearing helmets and protective gear do save lives. We all can get into accidents at any time. Accidents can happen, but they cannot be senseless accidents and should be prevented." emphasized the Dominican Prime Minister.

Furthermore, he advised people, mainly the youngsters driving motorcycles across the island, to go with care and safety as each life matters.

He added that the motorcycle drivers often overtake from the left side resulting in being hit by the other vehicles they attempt to pass.

Prime Minister stated that these unfortunate victims of motorcycle deaths leave behind their grieving families and people dependant on them alone forever.

He also sent his condolences to the family of Alexandra family of Grand Bay for the unfortunate death of their son in a tragic road accident.

Prime Minister Skerrit also shared his condolences to Theresa Charles and their family for losing their 15-year-old daughter to sickle cell disease. He stated it is very difficult for parents to bury their children.
