PM Pierre celebrates Saint Lucia’s 45th Independence in UK, honoring diaspora contributions

Saint Lucia: Prime Minister Philip J Pierre expressed his gratitude to everyone who attended the UK Independence Anniversary Gala, which was hosted by the Saint Lucia High Commission in London.

Held on May 25, the Prime Minister’s Gala Dinner in Celebration of Saint Lucia’s 45th Independence Anniversary was truly enjoyed by all who attended. The High Commission Office said that it was indeed a night to remember. 

While appreciating the organisers for hosting the wonderful event, PM Pierre said that he always welcome the opportunity to travel overseas to meet with his brothers and sisters, to speak with them and listen to their life’s journey of struggles and successes in a foreign country. 

He further noted that as Saint Lucians at home and abroad, he shares a common and binding purpose, which is to acquire individual success and contribute meaningfully to the overall development of the island nation. 

The Prime Minister said that as he moves ahead on that journey, all he is asking for is all hands on deck, and as such, the significant role and contribution of the diaspora cannot be overstated in the pursuit of sustainable national development.

He also thanked the attendees for their meaningful contribution to the economy of Saint Lucia over several decades and noted that not only have they provided the financial support to relatives and friends, but they have been a source of inspiration to everyone back home.

The Prime Minister also lauded the diaspora as many of them have done very well in their respective fields becoming ambassadors for Saint Lucia in their circles and highlighted that their achievements in sports, business, academia, art and other endeavours continue to elevate the international standing of the country and bring honour to the friends, families and the people. 

PM Pierre stated that the government recognizes the significance of Saint Lucia’s diaspora to the country and added that this year, his administration will roll out the program to grant Saint Lucian citizenship to children of second-generation Saint Lucians who are not born on the island. 

This will mean that 3rd generation Saint Lucians will have the chance to become the citizens of their home country.
