PM Chastanet with supporters

St Lucia: While covering the nomination rally of United Workers Party (UWP) leader and current prime minister of St Lucia Allen Chastanet in Phera-P for Dennery North, our reporters talked with several UWP supporters and workers.

In the conversation with them, we came to know with several interesting facts; many of the workers noted that they are not happy with UWP; according to them, they too witnessed severe crises in pandemic time, and at that point of time, PM Chastanet was not available for them.

Correspondent asked one of the supporters, then why they are in this rally, he replied, "Due to the pandemic, I have lost a job, so we are getting 5 Eastern Caribbean dollar minimum for each such meeting."

On the condition of anonymity, he told many secrets and back door politics of prime minister Chastanet.

Notably, WIC News is continually on the ground for many months throughout the elections, also known for our investigative journalism.

UWP workers said that internally many UWP workers have a lot of hatred against Allen Chastanet, and they are planning to vote for SLP in this election.

While this election coverage, Correspondent visited a lady's house who was a former UWP worker; while communicating to us she began crying when her mind started remembering those severe days when she lost her own family member in the pandemic, and that time when she attempted to contact with UWP top leadership, but she was awarded with harsh word's, and she left the party.

She added, "PM Chastanet have a lot of arrogance; I did a lot of hard work for my party for more than 6 years, even my forefathers were too UWP supporters, but we felt betrayed."

She further urged St Lucians to not vote for UWP this year.

Additionally, another UWP supporter expressing his feeling to our reporter told us that we are disheartened with our PM on all aspects.

He said, "We don't have proper roads, food, homes, jobs."

"I accept my mistake which I made in the last election; I attracted towards lofty promises which made me a blind follower of cheater Chastanet," he added.

He also revealed that Chastanet is trying to make fake propaganda of his party as most of his supporters are paid and third party agencies are helping him win this election, which are out of St Lucia.

He further noted that homicides have been increased in the country in the Chastanet term.

It was revealed that most of the supporters of UWP are now started to change their views on the party, which is now crumbling due to handling of COVID-19 situation in the country.

In contrast to Chatanet's administration, other Caribbean countries, including St Kitts and Nevis, Barbados, Dominica and St Vincent and the Grenadines, successfully managed to curb the spread of the COVID-19 virus while providing vaccines to the population, attaining herd immunity.
