Elections are an integral part of any democracy no matter how immense or trivial it is. Dominica, an island of the Caribbean may not be the biggest but just like any democratic country, general elections on the Island are also conducted after every 5 years.

Upcoming general elections of the Commonwealth of Dominica famously known as the ‘Nature Isle’ of the Caribbean are due by the year 2020. In recent stage events, the current Prime Minister Dr. Roosevelt Skerrit announced that his team has decided a date which will be announced soon.

Dominica Labour Party (DLP) is the current party in power in the country. On Thursday evening, an endorsement event for Dr. Kenneth Darroux was organized by the party at the Petite Savanne constituency with the presence of the party leader and PM Skerrit and other candidates for the general elections.

Prime Minister Dr. Roosevelt Skerrit articulated his gratefulness to the inhabitants of the Petite Savanne constituency for their commitment towards the Dominica Labour Party.

While lashing over the leader of opposition and UWP leader Lennox Linton, PM Skerrit said it is enormously imperative to understand the personal desperation of the opposition leader. He said, “opposition leader is the most unqualified leader of an opposition party in the history of this nation.”

PM Skerrit said that Lennox Linton sees these upcoming general elections as the last-ditch effort of his political survival. He said, “his fight is to save his soul for his benefits and we could have taken all of this for a joke if time in this country was not serious at the moment.”

Dr. Skerrit emphasized on the developmental and infrastructural goals accomplished by the country in a mere two years of the period after Hurricane Maria devastated the nation.

“There is more work to be done in Dominica and any disruption to this new vision will mean a return to the old order. Your sacrifice has been an investment to the future and people of Dominica do deserve a proper return on their investment and the next vote is about protecting your investment.” added Skerrit.

Prime Minister said that the opposition is trying to confuse the inhabitants of Dominica with their fuzzy maps, and they are also misleading the analysis with their baseless claims and manufactured indignation.

While speaking about the issue of CBI raised by the opposition, Skerrit said that the concept of UWP is to create confusion regarding the CBIP and elections to create some kind of billy in the country.

During the event, Current Minister and the upcoming parliamentary representation Dr. Kenneth Darroux said that two years when Hurricane Maria hit the nation, all of us were shattered and many of us are still in the rebuilding process but in this short period of two years we all have come a long way and we are building back better under the Dominica Labour Party.
