Nevis: Through partnership and local efforts, the Navis Tourism Authority is now spearheading for a new sustainability project in their effort to make Navis an eco-friendly destination for visitors.
The project, which includes the development of sustainable Nevis, will be dedicated to a group that will engage people of the island to be proactive in managing their waste and choose to reuse, reduce and recycle with the ultimate goal of elimination of single-use plastic. The Sustainable Nevis Group and Nevis Tourism Authority among other groups and agencies, have launched a campaign that will encourage local residents and citizens to recycle plastic waste at a designated place. The group has also introduced a slogan, “Let’s do something drastic to reduce single-use plastic.”Collaborating with Taiwan and Solid Waste Management Corporation, the Sustainable Nevis is looking forward to inspect and investigate the recycling systems on the island. Chief Executive Officer, Jadine Yarde said that Nevis is eager to jump in a fight to make the Caribbean more sustainable region.
“We hope to inspire both locals and visitors to adapt to the necessary changes towards creating a more environmentally conscious Nevis to ensure future generations can enjoy our islands unspoiled beauty,” Officer added.
The organization will also hold a line-up of different competitions to encourage people to embrace the sustainability goal. Local businesses will also be highlighted for their outstanding efforts to reuse, reduce and recycle plastic. According to information, the project will be in a phased approach in which the first phase will include highlighting sorting and collecting. The phase two will include more efficient ways to manage the waste in the vision of creating a recycling plant in Nevis. The campaign would display best sustainability practices with the ultimate goal of inspiring the people of Nevis to implement initiatives in the daily routine and exercises.Latest
