Guyana: A massive fire in Region Five of Guyana destroyed a two storey concrete house and boutique named ‘Colors of India’. The incident took place on Friday afternoon at Bath Settlement.
According to the officials the reason of the fire seems to be due to some electrical issues inside the property. The owner named Suresh Latchman, 52, also known as ‘Playerz’ of Lot D 16 Bath Settlement, West Coast Berbice stated that he left home yesterday morning to transact business in the country’s capital Georgetown.
He said that his wife Seelochanie Latchman was at home at the time of the incident along with their children and daughter in law.
Suresh said that while he was coming back home, he got a call telling him about the shocking incident. The man rushed to his home only to find it engulfed in massive flames.
As per Seelochanie Latchman, around 3 pm, she saw the electrical wire on the eartern side of the building sparking and within a few minutes it burst into flames. After seeing the huge fire, her wife, children and daughter in law quickly excited the place through the yard.
The family contacted the Region Five Fire Department immediately following which the firefighters ventured to the scene. The boutique was located at the bottom of their house and the businessman’s son operated a mechanic shop which was attached to the southern side of his house.
According to the information by fire department, the fire also destroyed three motor vehicles which was owned by the businessman and the estimated value of the damages is presently unknown. The businessman has also said that the house, businesses and vehicles were uninsured which made the incident more tragic for the entire family.
The scenes of the incident showcased huge flames coming from the backyard of the house with the neighbours gathering to witness the tragic incident.
