The Caribana celebrations will not feature Miss Barbuda for another year as organisers are unable to gather enough entrants.
Not since 2015 has Barbuda had its own queen – Asha Frank, former Miss Antigua and Barbuda and now politician – and from it’s population of more than 1,500 competitors have not been found.
Antigua News Room quotes Frank saying she doesn’t know why there is not a pageant this year.
This problem has been raised before by the Caribana committee, who pledged to hold the pageant every two years to allow enough women to be able to compete.
The Caribana celebrations, which began on Thursday, has already seen a full roster of entertainment.
Friday saw performances by Soca musician Edwin Yearwood from Barbados, Asa Bantan from Dominica, and a number of local acts.
Yesterday was the second time that the Prime Minister’s Aquatic Day took place.
And today sees a horse racing competition before the Calypso Monarch Competition and a j’ouvert on Monday.
