Jamaica: The island of Jamaica is mourning the death of one of the nation’s journalists, Job Nelson, who was murdered by shooting. Nelson was working for the Jamaica Gleaner Newspaper and was shot dead on Tuesday night while driving in Trench Town, Kingston. According to the reports, the 53-year-old was attacked by gunmen as he stopped at the stoplight around the St Andrew Technical High School. As the gunmen started firing in the direction of the journalist’s vehicle, he tried to flee and crashed the car into a utility police. Police officials reported that upon receiving the report, they made a necessary investigation and found blood stains in the white Honda Aria. The eyewitnesses informed them that the man had been injured and was rushed to the hospital by the residents. Meanwhile, the medical officials reported that Nelson sustained a major gun wound to his chest, because of which he died while receiving treatment. Following the incident, the editor-in-chief of the paper, Moya Thomas, said that this was a tough one to process as many of the staff members had spoken with him just a day before and added that Job knew his sports and was a dedicated, reliable, and diligent journalist. The death of Job Nelson has sent the nation into mourning, including Prime Minister Andrew Holness, who took to Facebook to express his sadness over the brutal incident. PM Holness noted that he was deeply affected by the tragic loss of Job Nelson who was a talented journalist and a fellow alumnus of St Catherine High. He said that Job was not just a remarkable professional but was also cherished by all members of the community. He called the incident ‘heartbreaking’ and added that his thoughts and prayers are with the victim’s family during this difficult time. The Prime Minister also recalled that he and Job shared the halls of St Catherine High which makes this loss feel even more personal and noted, “May his soul rest in peace, and may we, as a nation, continue to strive for a safer and more just Jamaica.” The police officials are still investigating the incident and are trying to find the motive behind this killing.
