Jamaica welcomes historic flight of American Airlines’ from Miami to Ian Fleming

Jamaica welcomes the inaugural nonstop flight of American Airlines from Miami to the Ian Fleming International Airport in St Mary. The flight arrived on Saturday and marked a new era for the country’s driving economic development in the tourism sector and the country at large.

The historic arrival of the world’s largest airline to the third destination in Jamaica carried 71 passengers on its Embraer 175 aircraft. This flight will provide its services on the same route every Wednesday and Saturday.

The flight departs at 10:10 am from Miami, Florida and arrives in Jamaica at 12:14 pm. The beginning of this journey was eagerly anticipated by the passengers as it promises to connect communities and ease memorable travel experiences for all abroad.

Onboard the flight, the passengers were seen waving the flags of Jamaica to mark the new service. It is to be noted that the flight was piloted by Jamaican born Captain Marc Coley, making the occasion much more significant.

The members onboard the flight were given a warm welcome by the leaders and a large turnout of Jamaicans who were on hand to greet. St Mary Western Member of Parliament (MP) Robert Montague also welcomed the flight as he was the one who gave the idea of constructing an international airport at Boscobel.

Prime Minister of Jamaica, Andrew Holness, was also thrilled to welcome the American Airlines to the 3^rd destination in Jamaica. He said, “Jamaica wins yet again. Yet another gamechanger as Jamaica welcomes nonstop American Airlines flights between Miami and the Ian Fleming International Airport in Boscobel, St Mary serving Ocho Rios and beyond.”

Meanwhile, MP Montague shared glimpses of the brief event held at the airport and said, “February 24th, 2024, will go down in St Mary, as historic , a momentous and memorable day.”

He also added that after years of dreaming, working and efforts, it is no longer a dream and has finally turned into a reality.

“Inter Caribbean Airlines, flies once per week from the Turks and Caicos Islands and now American Airlines, 2 times per week. ( Saturdays and Wednesdays),” added the MP.
