Jamaica: Not endorsing any candidate in contest for PNP President post, says Miller

Reiterating her stand over giving support to a candidate in the contest for the post of President of the People's National Party (PNP), the former PNP president Portia Simpson Miller said she would not be endorsing a candidate in the internal contest.

Releasing a statement on her twitter handler, Simpson Miller stated that on June 12 this year, she released a statement making it clear that she would not be endorsing a candidate in the internal contest for President of the People's National Party. Sticking with her earlier statement Miller said: "My position remains the same."

"Unfortunately, some persons have ignored my request and are using my name and image giving the false impression that I am supporting one candidate over another. I ask those responsible for using my name and image without permission to stop doing so with immediate effect," she said.

She also asked the General Secretary and the Committee set up to deal with breaches relating to the internal election to address this matter with urgency.

"I continue to encourage Comrades to campaign vigorously for their candidate always mindful that after the internal contest, we must continue our preparation for general elections," she added.

She also urged to keep the election campaign clean and respectful.
