Government allocates JM$100 million to help poor students
Ruel Reid has intervened to ensure final exams can be sat

Students at the University of the West Indies (UWI) will be able to access a JM$100 million fund to help with hardship, Sentator Ruel Reid has announced.
Earlier this week the Guild of Students’ reached out to the UWI administration requesting a possible extension to the imposed deadline for the payment of outstanding fees.
Following his meeting with the university and the student union, the minister for education, youth and information tweeted: "We are intervening on behalf of final [students] year too."

Tuesday was the final day for students to pay outstanding fees. Without payment they would have been unable to sit final exams.
The UWI has been criticised after students reported feeling anxious about their future education.
