International Airport in Dominica will have capacity to accept long haul flights: PM Roosevelt Skerrit
Prime Minister stated that Dominica's international airport would have a capacity to accept long haul flights which would improve access to the island.

The construction of International Airport in Dominica is likely to begin in the first quarter of 2021. Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit stated that it would give a significant boost to the tourism industry.
Prime Minister stated that Dominica's international airport would have a capacity to accept long haul flights which would improve access to the island.
"Our international airport will allow us to get our goods to market quicker, increase the scope of markets open to us, and promote the diversification of our economy. " stated the Prime Minister on independence day celebrations.
Prime Minister Dr Skerrit also asserted that the international airport is a necessity and it will be delivered as promised.
He stated that 411 acres land have already been acquired and all compensations to landowners would be completed by the end of November 2021.
Furthermore, he referred to the airport project a massive undertaking which should be done properly and eight different technical teams are established to ensure that everything is done properly.
"An International Airport Development Company will be chartered for the continuance of the plan to provide direction and assistance. An American professional firm, experienced in airport development, has been involved in executing advice and oversight," added PM Skerrit.
He emphasised that the site would be handed over to developers in December, and construction will start in the first quarter of 2021.
He noted that the construction would cause inconvenience to people of Wesley as they are required to be relocated; however, he added that the government is committed to taking all mandatory measures to minimise the impact on those who are affected.
"Government will assure that the people of Wesley and Woodford Hill will be properly compensated and will profit from the development, that the construction of the International Airport will create in your area." stated the PM.
