“I feel happy, want this for everyone else”, says Viola Casimir

“It was delightful when Dominica’s government offered me a house, a whole of my own home completely constructed for me and my family and after getting it I want this for everyone who had to suffer the wrath of hurricane Maria”, said Viola Casimir a 62-year-old woman living in Pointe Michel vicinity.

She was among the first people who were allotted free houses in wake of resilience from the destruction of hurricane. “I was not a die-hard follower of Dominica Labour Party but after the initiative of Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit, I have immense faith in his leadership”, she added.

While talking with WIC News correspondent, she expressed her sentiments with uncompromising smile, she said “I used to live at nearby locality before hurricane, as my home and people of my place were severely injured and some of them were killed by natural calamity in the year 2017, I was shattered and had no idea what to do next as I was homeless and everything around me was devastated. Later, our Prime Minister made an announcement that the government will be building houses for the people who were victims of the Maria, the hope was rebuilt”.

She added that it was a dream coming up to the reality that they were among the top people who got shortlisted for the allotment of the houses in Pointe Michel. The housing project was initiated by Dominica Labour party following the Citizenship by Investment programme, under which first new homes were handed over to about 38 families in the month December of 2018.

The feat in favour of public is credited to the leadership of PM Skerrit and administration of Dominica, as most of the new houses were possible only due to the Citizenship by Investment (CBI) initiative for the massive funding to the resilience. Following the revolutionary housing scheme, Dominica’s government is on the way to sustainable development to flourish the nature island at its best.

Viola said that she misses her previous house which she had to leave due to natural catastrophe, “But all out for the government I am here with my own house which is infused with blessings of the god”
