On Friday evening, Prime Minister Dr. Roosevelt Skerrit addressed the masses of his Viellie Case constituency. Dr. Skerrit who is also a parliamentary representative gave more than an hour-long extempore where he discussed some of his memories of living in the same area.
Dr. Skerrit during his address to inhabitants said that when he contested for the first time, he intended to serve the people of the constituency and he asked for vote for this purpose instead of the agenda of becoming the Prime Minister of the country. He said “When I contested, I did not ask people to vote for me because I wanted to be the Prime Minister, but I came to serve people and I want to continue to do so. We have been able to impact lives positively in the constituency.”
With determination and excitement, PM Dr. Skerrit also said that the hotel industry will be a boom to the tourism industry in Dominica, not only that hotels will help to employ people.
“For the first time in Dominica, international brands are building hotels. Kempinsky Hotel will employ more than 150 people in its initial days, not only that we have proposals from two major international brands that are begging to the government for building hotels.” said Dr. Skerrit.
PM said that the land has already been cleared to build another 100-room hotel right in front of the Kempinsky hotel.
Dr. Skerrit also said that there will be 10o rooms Marriot hotel by the international brand in the coconut beach and Secret Bay is making an additional 36 villas. “The hotel industry will be proven as a boost to our economy when tourists come and spend in their USD, GBP or Euro it helps in uplifting the economy.”
As per Prime Minister Dr. Roosevelt Skerrit, once these hotels are ready and started, these will generate a revenue of 140 million dollars to the government which will later be used to generate modern amenities in the country.
PM also reminded the people of Viellie Case constituency of Hurricane David, he said “I was way too young when Hurricane David came, but I know no government came forward to build houses for the homeless at that time and the government under the administration of Dominica Labour Party is reaching the developmental goals the governments before us were not able to do but still some people choose nothing but criticism.”
Agriculture and Fisheries were also part of Dr. Skerrit’s address at the constituency where he discussed the means through which these areas can be improved.
