Orelien was assigned as the investigative Judge in the President's assassination case in the month of August the previous year. He further also confirmed about writing the letter in a telephonic conversation with a media house.
The letter notes, "Around the facts of the assassination of President of the Republic Jovenel Moise, this for personal reasons, I relinquish the probe".
Earlier this week, the Haitian Judge blamed the slow and lack of progress related to the probing, noting the other institutions aren't that much cooperative in investigating the assassination case.As per verified sources, not a single suspect has been detained during the time when Orelien served as the probing Judge of the case.
Since the assassination of President Jovenel Moise took place on July 7, 2021, several theories and pieces of evidence related to his killing have been brought up. The widow of former Haitian President Martine Moise was also injured during the assassination and was then taken to Florida for her treatment.
The killing of the Haitian President fuelled the political chaos going on in the most-impoverished country of the Caribbean and Latin Americas region. Thousands of Haitians gathered on the streets, seeking justice for their former President. World leaders condemned the killing of the Haitian President. Meanwhile, after the assassination of the President, the general elections were postponed thrice, which are yet not scheduled.Last week only, the Jamaican police authorities arrested a Haitian senator, John Joel Joseph from Jamaica, who was later caught trying to bribe the officers to release him. Joseph is said to have offered a bribe amount worth $2 million to the law enforcers.
