Grenada’s Agriculture Minister Yolande Bain-Horsford has promised that a better farm labour support programme will be put in place during 2018.

Speaking at a general meeting of the Grenada Cooperative Nutmeg Association, she said that plans had been in place in the past but had no worked – something something she is blamed for in her ministerial role.

“We have sat down and we have put in a more comprehensive programme so it will address what the farmers needs are in the field with farm labour.

“That is a programme that I know has been creating a lot of problems over the years so we are working on that. We are going to come up with a more robust and a more comprehensive programme that the farmers can understand.”

The minister also discussed the OECS Regional Agriculture Competitiveness Programme, under which farmers can apply for support.

The World Bank has approved a loan facility of US$4 million to fund the scheme.

“We would unfold more about this project as we have to get it in focus but monies have been approved and farmers can get the opportunity to apple,” added Bain-Horsford.
