GCF announces approval of funds for Water-NAP in Belize

Belize: The GCF approved grant funding for the water national adaption planning project for Belize. The government of Belize issued a statement.
The Ministry of Finance, Economic Development & Investment, Belize’s National Designated Authority-(NDA) to the Green Climate Fund (GCF), is pleased to announce the GCF’s approval of the “National Adaptation Planning for Integrated Water Resources Management in the nation Belize” (Water-NAP).
This grand project, valued at BZ$1.8 million, is intended to support the capacitation and empowerment of the Ministry of Natural Resources' capacitation and grant to manage Belize’s water resources in this changing climate. The project is nested within the national efforts to respond to the impacts of climate change on the water industry (that includes droughts, floods and saltwater intrusion). This readiness grant will aid Belize in addressing critical challenges necessary for comprehensive adaptation planning in the water industry.
Expected outputs of this project includes:
• Climate responsive National Adaptation Plan & Monitoring Evaluation and Learning Framework for the water resources related administration
• Climate impacts and coastal influence examinations on groundwater resources to inform adaptation extracts for better decision making
• Strengthened observation, monitoring and forecasting methods for integrated water resources control
• Concept note and financial sustainability development plan for adaptation priorities of the water area
The Caribbean Community Climate-Change Centre-(CCCCC) will be the delivery partner. The CCCCC proceeds to support Belize’s attempts to fight climate change. In addition, fundamental stakeholders, including the Ministry Rural Transformation, Community Development, Labor and Local Government, Belize Water Services, village water boards, and other vulnerable groups, will be employed throughout the implementation scheme.
Dr Osmond Martinez, CEO in the ministry and the National Designated Authority, acknowledged the GCF and congratulated Mr Leroy Martinez, economist/GCF focal point; Mr Ryan Zuniga, CCCCC project development specialist; and Mrs Tennielle Hendy, principal hydrologist, National Hydrological Service; for their training and excellent leadership in the progress and seeking the endorsement of the scheme proposal.
